I apologize for the time gap between posts. I have been very busy with astrology charts and readings for clients. Some of my recent paintings are related to astrology and tarot so it seems apropos to do a post touching upon the interface between the visual arts and the intuitive arts.
My latest painting, the Ace of Cups, has evolved over several days and this is version 14.

Ace of Cups: Essence of Love

Ace of Cups: Essence of Love

The symbols on the cup represent the current conjunction between Jupiter, Neptune, and Chiron in Aquarius which will be happening throughout 2009. The Ace of Cups in Tarot symbolizes the essence, the experience, of pure love energy on a spiritual level. This card challenges us to go beyond conceptions of love as an object and become an open channel for this pure essence to flow through us. The Aquarian conjunction will manifest in different ways for different people. Those who live exclusively in the material realm may find themselves lost at sea with no place to drop anchor. Their familiar world may seem to be dissolving due to the influence of Neptune, planet of illusion, upon Jupiter, planet of good fortune. Those whose journey lies along the spiritual path may find ego transcendence more easily attainable at this time. Some I have spoken with in the course of astrological consultation have told me that they have felt especially spaced out during the last few months. Other people who are meditators and Zen practitioners have mentioned a great peaceful joy, arising from the depths of their being for no particular reason.  Many astrologers are interpreting this major conjunction in their own way, however the jury is still out on how it will affect society as a whole.

The next image I would like to share with you is titled Priestess of the Sun and is a symbolic depiction of pure strength radiating outward in all directions from the solar plexus of an awakened woman. This work also represents Leo energy with the Sun at the center illuminating all things.

The paintings seen here are available for sale as high definition, limited edition giclee prints at my website www.artbyinglis.com and, as with all of my art, are also available as digital projections, either individually or as part of a larger show.

The aforementioned conjunction has a direct correlation with the world of art and creation, since Neptune rules the world of theater, film, art, and music. Some artists I know are going through a very creative phase and have been for several months. Currently I have so many ideas for paintings that I can barely keep up and the Joy of painting is with me whenever I am working at my virtual canvas. Coincidently many of my recent paintings have astrological or spiritual symbolism in them. Also many feature female faces, though I’m not analyzing why this is the case.

Chiron was the wise healer and teacher of many of the Greek heroes, including Achilles, Heracles, and Odysseus. Chiron had been granted immortality by the gods but later was wounded by a poison arrow and his wound would not heal but neither could he die. So Chiron, a comet orbiting among the outer planets, has come to symbolize the wounded healer. The next image is of a centaur which began as a pencil drawing backing 1985.  It evolved into a pen & ink drawing and became even more detailed and complex.  Then in 2001 I began a color version, working with Corel Painter and my Wacom tablet and graphic pen.  This work was completed in 2008, although with digital creations, you can never say “done”, because I never know when I might be moved to pick up the brush again and change something. It’s a marvelous process and an ongoing adventure.
